Okomfo Afua Nsia Korantemah

Afua Nsia Korantemah was born Nina Sattia' M'Lee Cadney on October 12, 1979 in Birmingham, Alabama as the only child of Bert Cadney and Maggie Penick-Cadney. She was brought up in the tradition of Southern respect and generosity. Her parents encouraged and supported freedom of expression, as well as uniqueness.

Nsia spent most of her childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. She was raised by a very supportive family with the majority of the members living within walking distance of one another. This close knit family served as the foundation for her understanding of African culture. During her upbringing, she had a deep interest in her African heritage. Nsia's deep respect and constant interest in African culture was evident throughout her upbringing. So much so that her grandmother often referred to her as her "African baby."

While attending high school at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Nsia's individuality was enhanced. In 1997, she decided to explore a path different from that of her peers by traveling to Washington, DC to attend Howard University, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Social Work. Without a spiritual home, Nsia was constantly looking for a spiritual system that spoke to her African self. It was during this time that Nsia saw a young lady that was dressed in traditional Akan attire. Unbeknownst to her, this young lady was an Okomfowaa under the guidance of Nana Kyerewaa. Nsia expressed an interest in attending an Akom and was subsequently invited to attend an Akan culture and spirituality workshop. After taking this workshop series, Nsia felt a sense of peace and that her soul found its "spiritual home".

In 2002, her spiritual blueprint led her to begin priest training as the first Okomfowaa to the Obosom Nana Adade Kofi. Since then, Nina has transformed to Okomfo Afua Nsia Korantemah and she continues to follow the path of her Ancestors.
