Okomfo Akosua first met her godmother Nana Akua Kyerewaa Opokuwaa, in 1996 at a conference in Barbados, "Counseling and Treating People of Color." Never did she realize that this chance meeting would change her life forever. Okomfo Akosua attended the same conference the following year with a mission to seek out Nana Kyerewaa. After finding her that year at the conference in Hawaii, Okomfo Akosua began to make the regular pilgrimage to Washington, DC to attend akoms and learn about the Abosom and Nsamanfo. It was on her trip to Ghana in 1998 that she was told she was to go into training so that the great healer Nana Asuo Gyebi could heal her body. She took the necessary steps and began training in June of 1999 and graduated as a Priest to Nana Asuo Gyebi in June of 2003. Okomfo Akosua's hobbies are traveling and writing poetry. She has had the opportunity to travel to Belize and spend time with the Garunfia People. She has also visited Brazil, Ghana, Mexico, Jamaica, Barbados, and a number of other islands. One of Okomfo's favorite places is the Gullah Islands of South Carolina. Okomfo Akosua is the founder of Nsoroma Wellness Center and Wise Women's Healing Adventures. She is a licensed clinical social worker, licensed massage therapist, certified colon hydro-therapist, lymphadema therapist, Certified Natural Health Practitioner, Reiki Practitioner, and a licensed Naturopath. Okomfo Akosua is also trained in the use of tuning forks and other forms of energy work. She has workshops, retreats and does motivational speaking. She has been a presenter at a number of International and Holistic Health Conferences. One of her most sought-fter workshops is: "Creating Sacred Places Inside and Out." In 2006, Okomfo Akosua was invited to present at the Bu-NEAS International Conference in Istanbul, Turkey where her topic was accepted, "Three African American Women Discuss Their Initiation Into Traditional African Religious Institutions."
